P.S: I’m no doctor or lawyer. You should know that by now. As such, this article about Modafinil and coffee should be read as entertainment. Always consult a medical professional before consuming any pharmaceutical drugs and/or supplements, like Modafinil. Please read my disclaimer.

What is Modafinil?

I’ve got a hunch you already know what Modafinil is if you’re reading this article, but I’ll dive into the details right quick.

Modafinil was originally developed as a pharmaceutical wakefulness agent in France years ago. The drug was designed to combat common ailments like (source):

  • Narcolepsy
  • Sleep apnea
  • Shift sleep disorder

Yet the pharmaceutical drug starting being used for off-the-label uses once it came across the pond and hit the United States.

Once popular in the United States, many high-performing individuals realized Modafinil offered insane cognitive benefits when you didn’t have narcolepsy or sleep apnea.

Benefits like:

  • 12+ hours of intense focus
  • Enhanced overall cognition
  • Improved memory retention
  • Inability to feel fatigue

As such, Modafinil became increasingly popular with Silicon Valley CEOs and Ivy League grad students. Before you knew it, everybody and they mama wanted to get their hands on the stuff.

The smart drug craze had begun and Modafinil was leading the way!

Which is probably why you’re curious about mixing Modafinil and coffee.

Caffeine, Coffee, and What You Need to Know

If you’re reading this piece, then there’s a solid chance you drink coffee. If you’re anything like me, you drink a whole lot of it, too. We all know good coffee is packed full of caffeine and is one of the premier stimulants in the world.

Coffee is generally considered the most popular smart drug or nootropic in the world, too. In the vast majority of countries around the globe, you’ll find people downing coffee morning, noon, and night. Coffee shops can be found in nearly every major city.

Why? Because coffee tastes good and offers numerous cognitive benefits, such as:

  • Coffee can increase your energy levels due to the caffeine found in one cup (source).
  • Coffee increases dopamine in the brain, which leads to increased firing of neurons (source).
  • Drinking coffee increases alertness and attention span ().
  • Caffeine has been shown to increase memory performance and retention (source).
  • Coffee has also been shown to improve wakefulness in those suffering from jet lag (source)
  • …And so much more!

The cognitive benefits of coffee are seemingly endless, and the vast majority of them stem from consuming caffeine – the original smart drug.

Coffee alone is a powerful nootropic that will increase your mental performance.

The best part? You already drink coffee and know exactly how your body reacts to the stimulant. Now, let’s talk about Modafinil…

Understanding Modafinil

On the other hand, Modafinil contains no caffeine and is not considered a stimulant. In fact, many question how and why Modafinil works. The science is still split regarding how Modafinil effects the brain and why many people see such improved cognition when consuming the smart drug.

Most believe the drug affects dopamine responders in the brain in some way. Some have found the smart drug blocks responders, which increases the dopamine in the brain. This can lead to increased cognition and focus.

– Modafinil recently became the first smart drug clinically PROVEN to work! The nootropic actually provides insane cognitive benefits in studies (source) –

With more dopamine in the brain, the Modafinil “high” kicks in and mundane tasks become fun, again. We’re able to stay focused on things for longer because they become more enjoyable.

To put it simply, Modafinil is the most popular smart drug (not including coffee) on the market.

Why? Because the brain-boosting benefits are incredibly strong and you will become more productive when taking it!

How Caffeine and Modafinil Interact

We’re not here to talk about Modafinil or coffee by themselves. Nope. We want to take a look at how caffeine and Modafinil interact. We want to know more about the premier smart drug combination.

While I was unable to find a study on the effects of combining Modafinil and coffee, I do have my personal experience with the mixture…

For me, I’ve found taking 200 mg of Modalert before drinking 2-3 cups of coffee is a guaranteed way to stay focused for 10-14 hours.

When mixing caffeine and Modafinil, I’m guaranteed nearly 12 hours of work a day. The combination offers the stimulant effects of caffeine with the prolonged focus of Modafinil.

I’m able to stay focused for long amounts of time while my work pace is increased due to the caffeine.

– Compared to a regular work day without any nootropics, my output usually increases by 50-60% when taking Modafinil and coffee – sometimes more! –

How do I do it? Well, I try to keep things simple.

First, I like to wake up early. You’ll want to take Modafinil before 10 AM. So I try to get up around 7:30 AM or so.

Then I make a big breakfast. Modafinil can suppress hunger, so it’s important to put some food in your belly before getting to work. After eating, I typically shower up and brew a pot of coffee.

I try to take my Modafinil 45 minutes after eating to allow my food to digest. Then I pour some coffee and get to work.

I drink this coffee each day and tend to pour 2-3 cups into a huge glass with some ice. I sip the cold, organic coffee over the course of 3-4 hours in the morning. This keeps my caffeine intake even as the Modafinil kicks in.

I try to not drink any coffee after 2 PM or so. The combination of caffeine and Modafinil’s half-life can make it tough to sleep at night. Eliminating coffee intake in the afternoon and evening can help.

My goal when combining caffeine and Modafinil is to work 12 hours, eat a big meal after the work day is complete, and get to sleep before midnight.

By following the plan above, I’m able to do so.

Overall, Modafinil and coffee is the best smart drug combo I’ve found yet.

There’s simply nothing else on the market that can compete.

If you’re serious about hacking the mind, improving brain power, making more money, or getting better grades – combining caffeine and Modafinil is a MUST!

Coffee/Mod are a perfect combo. I usually take it on an empty stomach. As I brew my coffee I blast upbeat music and then pop a Mod.

Never sipped on my coffee over the course of several hours. Will give that a try tomorrow.

    Definitely an ideal combo!

Music is a huge key, too. I play the same song over and over, again. Helps me get into the ideal state while I create.
