How to Find the Perfect CBD Dosage: A Beginner’s Guide

Finding the ideal CBD dosage can be difficult for a variety of reasons.

Why?

Because there’s simply not a lot of information about finding the ideal dose of CBD oil online.

There are hundreds of articles and guides about the benefits of CBD oil, but only a few on dosing.

Not only that, the FDA has not created a recommended daily intake for the supplement.

So there’s really no standard to go off of.

Luckily, I did some digging for you.

After using CBD oil for a few months with fantastic results, I wanted to experiment with dosing protocol.

I wanted to know how much was too much. I need to know if megadosing offered any benefit over a standard dose.

Below is what I’ve found.

What is CBD Oil?

Before we dive too deep into finding the perfect dose of CBD for your health needs, let’s take a look at what this supplement is and why people love the stuff so much.

Basically, CBD stands for cannabidiol – which is a naturally-occurring component of an industrial hemp plant.

Hemps plants are commonly referred to as cannabis sativa and contain 104 various chemical compounds.

CBD is simply one of these chemical compounds found in hemp plants (Source).

But simply being one of 100+ chemicals in a cannabis plant vastly undermines the ability of CBD.

This compound is the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid available.

Which means this is the most abundant part of the hemp plant that won’t get you high.

Not only that, the stuff has been shown to be highly beneficial to individuals seeking pain relief, an all-natural sleep aid, and anxiety relief.

A vast number of benefits without any of the mind-altering effects of getting high or popping prescription drugs.

Once the CBD chemical is extracted from the cannabis plant, the stuff is diluted with an oil. Most producers generally use hemp seed oil or coconut oil.

Widely popular throughout health and wellness circles, multiple studies have shown up proving vast benefits of CBD oil when treating numerous ailments, including (Source):

How to Find Your CBD Dosage

Whether you’re an experienced CBD user or a newbie, you’ll find a lot of information about CBD dosing is either far too simple or way too complex.

Most manufacturers say just take one “dropper” a day. Maybe two.

Yet, that’s not an exact measurement or CBD oil dose in my opinion.

Why?

Because this dosing protocol doesn’t take into account things like:

  • The weight of the user
  • How concentrated the CBD oil is
  • Conditions being treated
  • Body chemistry

There’s lots of factors at play when determining how to dose CBD oil. I’m of the opinion that there’s no one-size-fits-all options when it comes to dosing.

But there are a few guidelines to follow when dosing CBD for the first time.

First, let’s start by looking at bodyweight and pain levels.

The chart below was created by Honest Marijuana (Source). This should serve as a starting point for finding the ideal CBD dose for your needs.

Generally, an individual of average bodyweight will want to take 10-20 mg of CBD when starting out.

If you’re taking CBD oil for anxiety or sleep issues, stick to the “none-mild” pain levels when starting off.

Generally, it’s better to start small with CBD oil and then work your way up once you understand how your body reacts to the supplement.

To further understand CBD dosing, you’ll need to look at the oil you plan to use.

Every CBD oil label should clearly state how many mg of CBD is in each dropper.

For example, I currently take Good Vibes CBD Oil from Sabaidee. It’s a great product and I’ve been getting the best sleep of my life while taking it.

On the label of this product, the company states there are 30 servings per bottle of 1 mL each.

Each dropper contains 1 mL when consuming this product.

Furthermore, each and every dropper of Good Vibes contains 8.33 mg of CBD.

Thus, I generally take 2 full droppers each night before bed because I weight 200 lb. That puts me close to the recommended 18 mg serving size for someone of my bodyweight.

CBD Dosage For Pain

I generally believe the dosing protocol above is ideal for individuals dealing with minor pains.

When curious about the best CBD dosage for pain, I’d recommend starting at around 10-20 mg of CBD.

For moderate to severe pain, one can increase the amount of CBD consumed. However, you may want to consult with a medical professional before doing so – as this is not medical advice.

The most CBD I’ve consumed in a day thus far is 42 mg of CBD or roughly 5 droppers of Good Vibes.

I did notice some extra reduction in pain relief, but wouldn’t say the improvements were drastic compared to a standard 2 dropper dose.

Experiment with your CBD dosage for pain, but anywhere from 10-30 mg should be ideal for most individuals.

CBD Oil Dosage For Anxiety

I’ve found CBD oil is potent for relaxing the mind and reducing any anxiety symptoms. Many others have uttered similar results.

If you’re looking for the ideal CBD oil dosage for anxiety, then I prefer this protocol:

  • 1 dropper first thing in the morning: 8-10 mg of CBD
  • 2 droppers before bed: 15-20 mg of CBD

This CBD dosage for anxiety will have you feeling calm and collected throughout the day.

You should feel relaxed, but energy levels should stay high.

Personally, I rarely take more than 2 droppers during the day if I’m working. I don’t want to be too relaxed when trying to create and produce.


Is There a CBD Dosage For Cancer?

I cannot comment on the proper CBD dosage for cancer, as I do not take the supplement for said reasons.

Furthermore, I’m no doctor and I do not believe or make claims that CBD oil is a cure for cancer.

Nor would I suggest the stuff is the best course of action when treating symptoms of cancer.

CBD Oil Dosage For Sleep

Personally, this is the number one reason I take CBD oil.

10-20 mg of CBD should aid in getting to sleep faster and staying asleep longer.

Some have even bumped things up for nearly 30 mg of CBD, but I’ve found that overkill.

A couple droppers are all I need to get a damn good night of sleep!

How to Find the Perfect CBD Dosage: A Beginner’s Guide

This guide was meant to be thorough and answer any questions regarding how much CBD oil should you take.

Generally, I take around 17-20 mg of CBD a couple hours before bed each and every night.

It improves my sleep and I wake up feeling refreshed. Many a minor ache and pain from the day before gone.

This is how I recommend starting your CBD dosing.

Once you’ve tried taking 1-2 droppers per day, you can adjust things according to how you feel and the benefits you’re seeing.
