When it comes to a different country, booking a flight ticket is probably the first thing that crosses your mind. But what if we told you can cross countries without a single flight?

While flights are the most popular, they are not the only travel option out there. If you are scared of flying or want to travel the world differently, ferries, trains, buses, and ships are a great option. For example, you can travel through South America on buses, trains and ferries with OTAs like Bookaway that lets you book your tickets online.

Many travelers are skipping flights because they want to experience something new and explore the world in a slower and more meaningful way. In today’s time, traveling is not just about reaching your destination, but the journey itself matters. If you are intrigued to know how to travel across countries without booking a flight, we suggest you give this post a read.

    Different Transportation Modes To Travel

If you think flying is the only way to travel across countries, you are wrong. There are many other ways to move from one country to another depending on the options available. Also, each transport mode is unique and offers a new kind of experience.

Here’s a brief rundown of the popular ways to travel without boarding a plane:

    • Buses

One of the most affordable options, buses are available everywhere and allow you to travel comfortably. In many regions like Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia, the bus networks are well-developed and can take you across countries with ease.

The good thing is, that long-distance buses come with comfortable seats, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and many other benefits to enhance your traveling experience. Boarding the bus gives you the chance to admire landscapes and beautiful sceneries along the way. If that’s not all, buses also help you save a great deal as they are not as expensive as flights.

    • Trains

For slow travelers, the train is probably the best option as it is both comfortable and efficient. Similar to buses, trains allow you to enjoy scenic views and have a great time on the way.

In regions like Europe, the train system is highly developed and connects almost every major city and smaller towns. This makes it easier to cross borders without hassles. Similarly, countries like Japan and China also have great rail systems and offer high-speed trains that can get you to places quickly. Plus, train stations are usually located in city centers, which make them more convenient than airports.

    • Ferries

If you want to cross a body of water, ferries are a great option. In places like Greece and Indonesia, ferries are used to travel between both cities and countries.

The good thing is, ferries come in all sizes, including boats and large vessels that are equipped with restaurants, and cabins. No matter the country you are in, you can book a ferry ride on Bookaway with just a few simple clicks. It offers a peaceful way to travel and enjoy beautiful sea views that you can’t get any other way.

    • Ships

Other than ferries, cruise ships are also a great way to cover long distances. It offers a unique traveling experience over the oceans that you haven’t imagined before.

While cruises are luxurious and entertaining, they are not the fastest option out there. So, if you are in a rush or have less time in hand, you should better choose a different travel mode. Compared to other options, ships are slower and can take days to reach your destination. However, it does give you time to relax and enjoy your journey to the fullest.

Countries To Travel Without A Flight

If you are anywhere in Europe, you can easily travel to these countries without booking a flight.

    • From Italy to Croatia

If you want to avoid airport stress while traveling from Italy to Croatia, booking a ferry trip is a great option. Running between Ancona to Split, the journey takes about 8 to 12 hours to complete. Since most ferries travel overnight, you can reach your destination by the morning or anytime during the day.

For a comfortable travel experience, book a cabin, so you can have access to additional amenities. Also, ferries run frequently between Italy and Croatia, so you can book your tickets according to your travel schedule.

    • From the UK to Spain

This ferry trip from the UK to Spain is perfect for those who are fine with spending 24 hours on the waters. You board the ferry from Portsmouth and get down to Bilbao. The good thing is, Bilbao has an excellent road network, so you can drive around the city once you get there.

While Spain has many other popular places, Bilbao is no less. As soon as you reach the city, you can spend your time exploring the museums, film locations, and more. As far as driving in Bilbao is concerned, you can either board your car on the ferry or rent one in the city.

    • From Italy to Sicily

If you are ready for a special kind of trip, take a train from Rome, Milan, or Naples, and travel to the southern tip of Italy at Villa San Giovanni. From there, you can board a ferry to go to Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island that is famous for its history and natural beauty.

Boarding the ferry will take you across the sea to the island of Sicily, where you can continue your journey to cities like Siracusa and Palermo on the train. Since there are many trips each day, you can plan your travel according to your convenience.

    Final Words

With the transportation network being developed in every country, you have many travel modes to choose from. If you are not comfortable flying, you can pick a different mode to reach your destination. To make things more convenient, you have Bookaway to sort your tickets, so you don’t have to worry about a single thing.
