Tourist Guide to the Philippines: What to Visit in the Capital

Manila is usually the first stop for anyone flying into the Philippines, a country made up of more than 7,600 islands. The capital is a mix of old and new – you’ll spot glass towers standing right next to centuries-old churches, and street food stalls sharing space with modern malls.

In 2023, more than 5 million international visitors came into the country, and the majority of them passed through Manila.

As Paul Theroux, a travel writer, once said, “Tourists don’t know where they’ve been, travelers don’t know where they’re going.”

That line sums up the city well. You actually don’t need a set plan here. Just wander and you’ll always find something worth remembering.

When Is the Best Time to Visit the Philippines?

Anyone going to the Philippines should be aware that the country has two main seasons. One is the dry season, and the other is the rainy season. The dry months usually start from November and end around May. The rainy season, on the other hand, stretches from June to October.

So, when is the best time to explore? We will recommend that you plan between December and February. During this time, the air is cooler and the skies are mostly clear. That makes walking around Manila especially more comfortable.

Of course, not every day will be filled with tours. Some travelers usually take the afternoons as a time to slow down and enjoy a bit of online gaming. It’s a simple way to relax, and if you choose the right sites, you’ll often find juicy bonuses to boost your gaming time. Tourists would probably do well by checking expert guides and reviews on the top operators that offer casino bonuses in Philippines to make their experience even more enjoyable.

If you go down this route, there is also the option to follow the leads of Filipino gaming experts like Demetris Jast for helpful tips and insights on getting the best value for your money. That way, even your downtime in the capital feels rewarding.

Top Places to Visit in Manila, The Philippines’ Capital

For tourists coming to the capital city of the Philippines anytime soon, you will do well to check out these locations once you land.

    1. Manila Ocean Park

If you’re travelling with kids or the whole family, Manila Ocean Park is a perfect spot to throw on your list. It’s the country’s first world-class oceanarium, and it brings you face-to-face with sharks, stingrays, and even penguins.

The park features eight main attractions, such as a jellyfish gallery and a lively bird show. Presently, the park is one of the biggest oceanariums in Asia, holding more than 14,000 sea creatures from 270 species. That makes it a perfect refreshing stop for anyone in Manila.

    1. Taal Lake – Tagaytay

A short trip from Manila takes you to one of the country’s most striking spots – Taal Lake. In the center sits a volcano, and inside its crater, another lake waits. It feels almost unreal, like nature showing off its best trick.

Spending a day here is absolutely worth it. You just need to be there for sunset to catch the magic.

As John Muir once said, “In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

That thought captures the feeling of standing at Taal perfectly.

    How to get there:

    • From Manila, take a bus to Tagaytay.
    • Get off at Tagaytay Rotunda and Olivarez Plaza.
    • From there, grab a tricycle or jeepney to Talisay.
    • At Talisay, hop on a boat across the lake to the volcano.

Once on the island, skip the tired horses and hike up yourself. It’s an hour walk with cold drinks waiting at the top.

    1. Banaue and Batad Rice Terraces

Your trip to the Philippines can never be complete if you didn’t see the Banaue and Batad Rice Terraces. Carved into the mountains over 2,000 years ago, these terraces are both steep and dramatic. In fact, people called them “the Eighth Wonder of the World.”

Hiking here isn’t easy. It can take hours, but you can bet the views of the layered green fields will make up for that. The best time to visit is between April and May. You can also plan your trip between October and November, too. These are the times the terraces are at their greenest.

    1. The Mind Museum

For something different, The Mind Museum in Bonifacio Global City is perfect. It’s a science museum, but don’t expect dull displays. There are over 250 interactive exhibits spread across themed galleries like Atoms, Life, Earth, Universe, and Technology.

You can play with gravity, test your knowledge of carbon, or climb a piano staircase that actually makes music. It’s fun for both kids and adults. To not get caught up in the crowds, aim to visit during the weekdays, and definitely stay for the planetarium show.

    1. Dessert Museum

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, the Dessert Museum will feel like paradise. Located inside S Maison at Conrad Hotel Manila, it’s made up of eight colorful rooms, each themed around treats like donuts, fortune cookies, and candy canes.

This is playful, quirky, and one of the newer attractions in the city. That makes it a perfect place to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

    Final Notes

Manila is full of surprises. Imagine spending the morning exploring old churches, then finding yourself in a modern museum taking cool photos by the afternoon. The city is full of both the ordinary and the unexpected. And that’s what makes it so memorable.

If you’re heading to the Philippines, don’t just treat Manila as a stopover. Let it be one of the highlights of your trip.
